This week’s topic in the 52 Week Blog Challenge is stress eating.
To be honest, eating and body image are topics that push my buttons. In today’s society there is so much focus on eating (or not eating), working out, and being thin. We’re inundated with unhealthy images and expectations. It’s often hard to be objective and not succumb to damaging outside influences.
Personally, I love to work out, but I do it to be happy and healthy. I’ve learned the difference between challenging and damaging exercise. I’ve been a vegetarian for nearly thirty years and generally eat healthy food, but I still enjoy some junk food, too.
My favorite way to relieve stress is to work out, but sometimes I want comfort food. Do I stress eat sometimes? Of course. I love dark chocolate and eat it regularly, but if I’m in the stress eating mood, I’ll eat any available chocolate.
I’m the sort of person who can go to extremes, so I make a conscious effort to live life in moderation, whether it’s regarding food, exercise, hobbies, or work. That’s why I don’t stress out over occasional stress eating. There’s no shame in being human after all.

“There’s no shame in being human.” Amen! I can see cutting out an entire category of food if you have a genuine medical problem triggered by that food, but just to be as thin as the fashion magazines want us to be? Pshaw. Pass the chocolate–or in my case, the cheese & crackers. Good article!
I think everyone enjoys some junk food. The key is moderation. A serving of french fries every once in a while won’t kill you, but a daily diet of of them may.
I relate to your love of dark chocolate. I have to force myself into moderation when it comes to eating light or dark.
So do I. My favorite is the 88% dark. I didn’t like it at first, but now it’s my fav.
Exactly. I enjoy food too much to say I’ll “never” eat some bad stuff.
Thank you. Like you said, a medical issue is different than doing it because it’s the latest fad.
