The WeWriWa is a blog hop in which writers post 8-10 sentences from one of their books. This week my snippet continues the conversation between Grit and the Alpha of Detroit. The Alpha tells Grit what his assignment will be, and it’s not one that Grit is eager to accept.
“The next time your demon master tries to contact you, I want you to let him.”
“What? Why?” Grit asked.
It had taken great strength of will to keep his master out — to push him to the furthest recesses of his mind and prevent him from taking over with his dreaded orders.
“Can you do it without succumbing to his manipulations?” the Alpha asked.
“I don’t know.”
“Try.”
“And if I can’t control myself?”
About Fangs and Fists: Grit
(Erotic Paranormal Romance)
Werewolf gladiator Grit faced his own mortality in the arena, only to be resurrected by a demon. Grit now lives a shadowy existence as one of the soulless, remembering only bits and pieces of his former life. Nonetheless, he recognizes evil and knows he must fight for the future of his young son, as well as the rest of the world.
Zari, a vampire warrior, helped Grit escape the tower where he had been imprisoned. She had feelings for Grit when they’d first met, but at the time he had been mated to another wolf. Now that he’s on his own, they’re free to explore their feelings as they fight side by side as part of the rebellion against the demons. In the midst of war, their love grows, but danger is everywhere.
Haylen, the demon who resurrected Grit, offers a bargain that may save or destroy the rebellion. Whatever the outcome, Zari and Grit intend to face it together and explore the once forbidden passion between them.

Sounds like a dangerous situation. Intriguing snippet!
What happens next? Scary business so well done!
Sounds risky. The alpha must have a pretty good reason to ask such a thing. Can’t wait to find out what it is.
What is Alpha thinking? That just because he barks an order, people will carry it out . . . even if he’s asking too much?
Thank you, Jessica.
Thank you, Charmaine. Grit is going to do what it takes to help win the war.
He definitely does, Alexis. Grit is unique in his ability to connect like this with a demon, but still think on his own.
It might sound like that in this snippet, Ed, but the Alpha isn’t that kind of leader. Grit knows this, but he’s not sure of his own abilities yet. They both have the same goal, but it’s going to be hard on everyone to achieve it.
Yeah, what happens if he can’t control it? I’m curious to know that answer too. 🙂
His last question is a good one. And there’s no way to know until the situation arises. Rock and a hard place to be sure.
He says jump and expects everyone to say “how high?”??? Arrogant Alpha.
He has his moments for sure, Diane, but he has had faith in Grit when others haven’t. Now is the chance to see if he’s right.
That’s true, Jenna. It’s a risk, but if the Alpha’s plan works, they’ll have a strong advantage.
Hopefully, they won’t have to find out. 🙂
Well, there’s an unsavory predicament to find oneself in.
It is!
