Welcome to the WeWriWa blog hop where writers post 8-10 sentences from one of their books.
Last week my snippet from Fangs and Fists: Grit focused on the demon, Haylen, and his forced allegiance to the demon masters. This week’s excerpt continues in Haylen’s lair.
Haylen approached the transparent coffins that held the most recent additions to his collection — two gladiators called Knox and Glacier. The former had died in a punishment chamber and the latter in the arena. Glacier had been defeated by the same gladiator who had beaten Grit. After rebelling so long against killing his own kind, Victor had finally given in. Haylen guessed he would be sending many more opponents to the refrigeration unit, but that wasn’t Haylen’s concern. Hopefully he would be long gone by then.
His conversation with Adrian had been meant to lull him into a sense of security, that if he did his masters’ bidding, he might be spared torture and death. That was a lie. They were playing with him. Demons, like cats, enjoyed toying with their food before devouring it.
About Fangs and Fists: Grit
(Erotic Paranormal Romance)
Werewolf gladiator Grit faced his own mortality in the arena, only to be resurrected by a demon. Grit now lives a shadowy existence as one of the soulless, remembering only bits and pieces of his former life. Nonetheless, he recognizes evil and knows he must fight for the future of his young son, as well as the rest of the world.
Zari, a vampire warrior, helped Grit escape the tower where he had been imprisoned. She had feelings for Grit when they’d first met, but at the time he had been mated to another wolf. Now that he’s on his own, they’re free to explore their feelings as they fight side by side as part of the rebellion against the demons. In the midst of war, their love grows, but danger is everywhere.
Haylen, the demon who resurrected Grit, offers a bargain that may save or destroy the rebellion. Whatever the outcome, Zari and Grit intend to face it together and explore the once forbidden passion between them.

Nice snippet! At least he knows what he’s getting into.
Although his eyes are wide open going in, that doesn’t mean things will turn out well for him.
Love the comparison of demons to cats (not that my cats would approve!). He’d be wise not to get comfortable . . .
Interesting snippet and scary also. Thanks.
Love that final line! Really enjoyed this snippet, Kate! Great job! 🙂
Maybe he thinks he knows what he’s getting into. I wouldn’t trust demons.
