In the WeWriWa blog hop, writers post 8-10 sentences from one of their books. Last week, my snippet left off with the witch Maddy uncovering information about the demon Haylen’s past. She revealed that he was once a faith healer. This excerpt continues the scene.
“How did he end up a demon?” Grit asked.
“While he was away, his village was raided by Vikings. Everyone was slaughtered, including his wife and young son. He tried to heal them, but they were already dead. His powers could only heal the living. The dead are in the hands of heaven, or at least their souls are.”
“Still waiting to hear about the demon part,” Christian said, folding his arms across his chest. He didn’t seem to want to hear a single good word about a demon, even if it was true and long past.
About Fangs and Fists: Grit
(Erotic Paranormal Romance)
Werewolf gladiator Grit faced his own mortality in the arena, only to be resurrected by a demon. Grit now lives a shadowy existence as one of the soulless, remembering only bits and pieces of his former life. Nonetheless, he recognizes evil and knows he must fight for the future of his young son, as well as the rest of the world.
Zari, a vampire warrior, helped Grit escape the tower where he had been imprisoned. She had feelings for Grit when they’d first met, but at the time he had been mated to another wolf. Now that he’s on his own, they’re free to explore their feelings as they fight side by side as part of the rebellion against the demons. In the midst of war, their love grows, but danger is everywhere.
Haylen, the demon who resurrected Grit, offers a bargain that may save or destroy the rebellion. Whatever the outcome, Zari and Grit intend to face it together and explore the once forbidden passion between them.

Just going by what I know of demons, I kinda understand Christian’s negative impression of demons.
I sense some soul-selling in this story telling. Loss of loved ones brings on extremes in desperation. Nice motivation.
Demons are happening in this snippet. Scary bit of business.
Good pacing in the dialogue – you leave me wanting to know more.
Same! Tell me about those demons!
He may be surprised that all demons are not the same.
Effective snippet. I want to know more.
Yeah, kind of getting Christian’s attitude here. I like the idea that demons are not exactly what they’re thought to be, though.
Oooh, I want to hear about the demons.
Well, I’m touched by Grit’s tragic past, but how did that turn him into a demon? I definitely want to know more!
