In the WeWriWa blog hop, writers post 8-10 sentences from one of their books. This week my snippet continues the conversation about the demon Haylen. It begins after the group discovers that Haylen’s family had been killed during a raid. Maddy replies to Christian’s comment about waiting to hear how a faith healer became a demon.
Maddy shot him an annoyed look. “I’m getting to it. He disappeared for a time after that. No one is exactly sure where he went or what he did, but when he returned, he was different. Some say, and apparently the stories were true, that he had become a master of magic, in particular the most dangerous and wicked forms. He no longer healed the living, but raised the dead. As the story goes, he resurrected the long dead villagers, creating an army of rot and bones that responded to his will alone. With them, he tracked the raiders who destroyed them and took revenge using the corpses the Vikings had left behind.”
“I can almost understand his thinking,” Grit admitted.
Christian scowled. “You’re under his influence.”
About Fangs and Fists: Grit
(Erotic Paranormal Romance)
Werewolf gladiator Grit faced his own mortality in the arena, only to be resurrected by a demon. Grit now lives a shadowy existence as one of the soulless, remembering only bits and pieces of his former life. Nonetheless, he recognizes evil and knows he must fight for the future of his young son, as well as the rest of the world.
Zari, a vampire warrior, helped Grit escape the tower where he had been imprisoned. She had feelings for Grit when they’d first met, but at the time he had been mated to another wolf. Now that he’s on his own, they’re free to explore their feelings as they fight side by side as part of the rebellion against the demons. In the midst of war, their love grows, but danger is everywhere.
Haylen, the demon who resurrected Grit, offers a bargain that may save or destroy the rebellion. Whatever the outcome, Zari and Grit intend to face it together and explore the once forbidden passion between them.

“An army of rot and bones” – great description! Love the final line, too. Really nice work, Kate!
Haylen certainly did change. And I bet that revenge was something to behold. I wonder if he resurrected his wife and child as well? I hope not. Such an intriguing story! I definitely want to know more.
Powerful scene! Great setup up for an awesome scary bad guy they’re right to fear and mistrust but for the moment, need. Nice job, Kate!
An army of bones and rot? I love that description.
Yikes, an army of rot bones. What an image! Great snippet. Look forward to reading more.
No an army I would want to meet or a man I would want to have angry at me.
