In the WeWriWa blog hop, writers post 8-10 sentences from one of their stories. This week, I’m sharing another snippet from Fangs and Fists: Haylen. Last week, Haylen awoke after surgery that relieved him of a tracker implanted physically and magically in his spine by the demon masters. The witch, Maddy, helped him through the ordeal and now they’re both on the run after a major battle between the demons and the rebels.
Haylen wasn’t accustomed to doing the right thing, and though he’d wished to leave the masters, that didn’t mean he wasn’t still a demon.
“Let’s go back inside and I can give you more of Gordon’s potion.”
Gordon, a medical doctor and witch, had removed the tracking device. He’d probably enjoyed wringing every bit of pain from Haylen that he could.
“I’ll be fine,” Haylen said. “That potion deadens my awareness.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Yeah. And it also deadens the pain. It’s only been a few hours since that disgusting device was ripped out of your spine.”
“I don’t need to be reminded of the details.”
About Fangs and Fists: Haylen
(Erotic Paranormal Romance)
Faith healer turned resurrection demon, Haylen served the masters for centuries, creating legions of the soulless. By bargaining with the rebels fighting the demon masters, Haylen was freed from a tracking device viciously implanted in his spine and reinforced with evil magic. Now armed with both his demonic powers and his former angelic gift of healing, he can choose his part in a world where good and evil are constantly at war.
Maddy, a young mechanic with magical powers, has studied Haylen’s history and finds the demon fascinating, but she’s even more intrigued by the man he can become. Haylen appears to return her interest, but will the good witch save the demon’s soul, or will he corrupt hers?

Ooooooh! Love the cover, Kate! He’s one tough customer and she’s not letting him get away with anything.
Deadened awareness and in extreme pain can both be dangerous in certain situations. I hope he doesn’t have to confront anything in his current state.
He should take some of that potion at least, just to take the edge of the pain off. Having anything ripped out of your spine has got to hurt like the devil (so to speak). Great snippet!
The operation does sound disgusting.
Reading your blurb, it’s clear that this is a truly crucial moment in your story.
Having anything ripped out of your spine sounds dreadful.
Thank you, Nancy! She’s one of the few who can handle him. 🙂
You’re right about that, Jessica, but luckily they run into werewolf rebels next instead of demons.
You’re right, Jenna! On the bright side, he’s a demon with accelerated healing, so he’ll recover pretty fast.
It is, Aurora. Almost everything to do with the demons is disgusting.
That’s true, Ed. Haylen has a lot to think about.
I agree, Elaine.
Ripping the device out of his spine? Ouch!!! Good description of his pain.
I’ve come to feel that not all angels are good and not all demons are evil. He seems to be the good kind.
I agree with others–ripping a device out of his spine and now numbed beyond the pain. Yikes! I LOVE the blurb. Good story premise!
