The WeWriWa blog hop invites writers to share 8-10 sentences from one of their stories. This snippet is from my new release Wild Witches of Beaver Bay 1: Mysti and Starr. When a demon attacks Mysti in her sleep, Starr reveals his magical “weapon” to her for the first time, although it’s not intentional. Once he absorbs the demon, he instructs her to stay behind, but she’s not about to obey his orders.
It didn’t take long for flames to engulf him. He clenched his teeth. The stench of brimstone filled Starr with every breath as the demon’s dark, scratchy spirit died in the fire and faded in the smoke.
When Starr turned back to shore, he found Mysti, wrapped in a sheet, standing on the edge, staring at him.
“What the hell was that?” she demanded.
“It was a demon. Basic, but potentially dangerous. Don’t worry. It’s gone now. You’re safe.”

Oh, just a demon — sure then, I won’t worry a bit. Did he really think that would soothe her?
Good thing he took care of it!
Only a demon. What an interesting comment. I have a feeling she is not pleased with his words.
Safe? When she’s been attacked by a demon!
Don’t worry. Uh, huh. Loved the visual of how he consumed the demon.
Do demons show up now and again that he treated like no big deal? lol Yikes! A demon! Enjoyed the snippet and look forward to reading more.
“Dark, scratchy spirit” – LOVE it. Makes me itch just reading it.
What a sizzling excerpt – and I love the casual way he dismissed the demon! 🙂
