In the WeWriWa blog hop, writers to share 8-10 sentences from one of their stories. Last week the snippet from my paranormal romance Mysti and Starr (Wild Witches of Beaver Bay 1) ended with Mysti demanding to know what happened after she witnessed Starr destroy the demon that had attacked her in her sleep. He assumed she was asking about the demon, but she quickly sets him straight.
“I wasn’t talking about the damn demon. I mean what did you do?”
“I destroyed it.”
“It looked like you absorbed it.”
“That’s pretty much how my weapon works.”
“Your weapon?”
“Some call it a power, others a gift. Some might even call it a curse. In my family, we call it a weapon.”

At one point in absorbing a demon via his weapon will he be in danger of being more demon than human? And what happens then?
Exciting snippet. Way to go, my friend.
Oh, the possibilities! I like this snippet. 🙂
I’m thinking what Ed’s thinking. Love the quick exchange here. In just a few words of dialogue, you’re able to convey so much. Great job!
Okay. I agree any power can be used as a weapon.
Absorbing demons seems like it could be bad for the health. Interested to learn more about this world and the magic in it.
That sounds like a very nifty weapon to have in a world with demons. Although I’m wondering just how doing something like that affects him. Does it weaken him somehow and if so for how long? Great snippet!
Wow, what a weapon. I’m thinking like the others–what happens to him when he absorbs the demon?
Hi, Ed. After he absorbs them, he expels them. In last week’s snippet, that’s what Mysti witnessed. She wasn’t sure what was going on because there’s a lot of fire when he expels the demons’ spirits.
Thank you, Charmaine!
Thank you, Teresa!
Thank you, Julie! So far he’s always been able to expel the demons after absorbing them.
That’s true, Aurora. No matter what you call it, it still does the same thing.
Thank you, Alexis! Mysti had the same concern, but so far so good for Starr.
Hi Jenna. Depending on how many demons he’s absorbed and expelled, he usually needs rest after, but makes a full recovery. At least at this point in the series. 🙂
Hi Diane. So far, as long as he expels them, he’s fine.
What a weapon! Great scene. I want to know more.
Thank you, Karen!
An interesting and original idea! Great excerpt!
Great snippet, definitely piqued my interest. I’d like to know more about his weapon
