M. S. Spencer
M. S.’s Top 3 Halloween costumes
In my family store-bought costumes were prohibited. A measure of creativity—coupled with simplicity and seasoned with a low-to-zero price tag—was expected. Surprisingly, the costumes often won prizes and/or grudging admiration. These are three of my favorites:
Ghost: For my 6-year-old daughter: a white sheet with 2 holes for eyes & a hole for the mouth. Easy and effective. And reusable!
Mummy: For me at age 12. My mother wrapped me in two rolls of toilet paper from head to toe. We thought it was cool…until it began to rain.
Gypsy: Finally a use for those Mardi Gras beads!

More murders, more secrets, more mysteries ensue, all in the deeply romantic, sizzling jungle.
Excerpt:
The Conspiracy
At six, she made her way to Felicity’s room. She had raised a hand to knock when Emory’s angry voice clanged, “No! I won’t be a party to it, Fel. I’ve had enough.”
Felicity murmured something indistinguishable.
“I don’t care. I won’t do it again. You’re not the one who got tripped up the last time. The money isn’t worth it.”
Petra listened wide-eyed. Not worth the money? Could she have been that naïve? Are they all in it together? Was
Aguirre’s skeleton part of an elaborate plot to deceive the academic world? For that matter, were all Emory’s stories—from West Overbrook to the hummingbird—mere fabrications? Or worse, failed scams?
How could she have been so wrong about a person? Why, she’d almost fallen in love with him! She couldn’t bear to think where that would have led her. To jail? To the witness stand?
She spun around and went in search of her brother. He may be the only one I can trust. She found him in the darkroom. “May I come in?”
“Hang on a sec…okay.” He turned on the light.
A drawer jutted slightly ajar. “What’s that?”
He closed it quickly. “Nothing.”
She backed out. Oh my God, Nicky’s involved too.
