Trick or Treat, a Hammer short
Release Date: October 1, 2019 (tentative)
“I am not wearing that.” Jim stared at the shell bra and the fish scale, iridescent hot pants. “Not. Take it back, Tanny.”
“But if you’re the merman, your master can be Poseidon. Don’t you think he’d make an amazing god of the sea?” Tanny dangled the bra from one of his fingers.
“I’m not wearing that. No. You wear it.” He wanted to wear jeans and a turtleneck to be a beatnik.
“I don’t do sexy the way you can do sexy.” Tanny pushed the bra at him. “Think of Master Marcus’ face when he sees you.”
“Nope. Never. I have a costume.”
“We’re getting it for you.” Tanny dropped the costume into the cart and headed for the cashier’s table.
“No! I’m not wearing that. Not. You’re wasting your money.”
Tanny just laughed in response. Then proceeded to buy the stupid merman costume. “Come on. Our masters are expecting us at the coffee shop in five minutes. We don’t want to be late.”
“I’m not wearing that. I’m going to be a beatnik.”
“That’s your costume every day, Jim. This’ll be spectacular. I promise.” Tanny handed over some cash and the costume was put into a bag, which Tanny grabbed up.
Jim just shook his head. No. No way. His ass would look ridiculous.
Tanny linked their arms together and encouraged him out the door. They headed left. The coffee shop was only a few blocks down and the cooler fall air felt good on his face. “I thought you’d be more excited about winding up at a coffee shop,” Tanny noted.
Jim rolled his eyes, more at himself than at his best bud. “I am. I can’t believe you bought that. I didn’t even see your costume.”
“Leather daddy.” Tanny didn’t even look like he was joking.
“Really? Does Billy know?”
“Yeah. He said for Halloween it was fine. I wanted him to go as my boy, but he said no to that.” Tanny wriggled a little, which made Jim think maybe Tanny had gotten punished for suggesting that.
“I bet you both would feel silly.” He felt anxious himself, unusually so, and his eyes searched for Marcus’ familiar, beloved face the moment they entered the coffee shop. Those dark eyes landed on him, and it was all he could do, not to run and take a hard hug.
They went to the booth where their masters were sitting and Marcus stood as he got there, arms wrapping around him – his master always knew. Always.
“Master.” Jim sighed and cuddled in. Better. Christ, so much better.
