I’ve fallen behind on blog hops the past couple of weeks due to preparing my annual Halloween Page, but I’m looking forward to getting back to them. I hope you enjoy this excerpt from Mysti and Starr.

Wild Witches of Beaver Bay 1: Mysti and Starr
by Kate Hill
(Paranormal Romance)
A blazing trail only he can see leads demon hunting biker Starr Johanson to his destined mate. A blessing placed on her family’s ancestral land summons Mysti Wild to the cabin where she’ll meet the man fated to share her life.
Each fears the other will be frightened by magic they don’t understand, but they quickly learn to trust each other, because no one can resist the person they were born to love.
Excerpt:
“What do you do for work?” Starr asked.
“My family owns a publishing house. I’m an editor.”
“That’s really interesting. What kind of books do you publish?”
“We specialize in the paranormal.”
“Really? Fiction or non-fiction.”
“Both, but mostly non-fiction.”
“Why?”
Mysti smiled, not sure how to take his question. “What do you mean why?”
“Why the paranormal?”
“It’s a family thing.”
“What’s the name of your publishing house?”
“Silver Yeti.”
“I know it.”
This time Mysti laughed. “Right. Sure you do.”
“Didn’t you publish the series about the paranormal activity at the camp in upstate New York?”
Her brow furrowed. “Did you read it?”
“I did.”
“You’re interested in the paranormal?”
“Yeah. Does that surprise you?”
“Frankly, yes. I didn’t think a guy like you would be…”
“What? Able to read?” Starr laughed.
“That’s not what I meant. I didn’t think you’d be into hauntings and spirituality.”
“I didn’t expect you would be into it, either.”
Mysti wasn’t sure why his remark surprised her. They pulled into the parking lot of her favorite restaurant in the area. It was run by a middle-aged couple and featured traditional home-cooked chicken dinners as well as a variety of desserts.
“I hope you like chicken,” Mysti said.
“Yeah. Great protein.”
“Are you a health nut?”
Starr was in great shape, but not crazy lean, like so many gym rats she had seen. Mysti liked a guy with well-developed muscles, but she also liked a little bulk. Four and even six packs looked nice, but an eight pack was insane and more a turn-off than a turn-on. Mysti preferred company that ate meals rather than drank them.
He probably won’t touch dessert, Mysti thought with a sigh.
Well, she was having chocolate cake no matter what. That was her favorite and this restaurant had the best chocolate cake on the planet.
“I like to be healthy, but I wouldn’t call myself a health nut,” Starr replied. “I like some junk every now and then. Sweet potatoes with brown sugar and pecans. That’s my favorite. And sweet potato pie. Why am I explaining myself? You’re the one who serves gluten-free arrowroot no-sugar-added cookies.”
“Wow. Those cookies really bugged you.”
“No, they actually were pretty darn good.”
“I can try to make sweet potato pie sometime.”
“I’ll show you how.”
“You cook?”
“I’ve been known to.”

I’ve never had sweet potato pie… but I’d like to!
Great interaction, Kate.
The has hidden depths. Clearly her opinion of him was wildly off.
Cute interchange. My granddaughter makes great sweet potato pie.
Chocolate cake for me. Even though I live where sweet potato pie rules, it’s not my favorite treat. The premise sounds interesting.
Sweet potato pie is one of my favorites. So is pumpkin. I honestly cannot tell them apart. Everyone says they’re not the same, but I can’t tell at all. 🙂
Love the banter. Well done!
