Ritual, process, habit. No matter what you call it, all writers have their own way of creating a story. Some like to plan an outline. Others prefer to dive into a first draft and see where the story takes them. Listening to music while working might be an important part of one writer’s creativity, while another needs silence.
It’s not so much the way someone builds a story, but the fact that it gets told. Some might argue otherwise, but to me there is no right or wrong way to write a book. Do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Good point that our process could be considered a routine.
