Other than Halloween, I’ve never been much for holidays. My idea of celebrating is to have a day away from my regular schedule to relax.
When I was growing up, my family always got together for holidays. Probably like most families, it was something that was expected, but I’m not sure if everyone enjoyed it. I don’t mind spending some time with those closest to me, but I’m a loner by nature, and a homebody. I enjoy decorating my house, doing some cooking, and hanging out with my pets and those very close to me, but I don’t miss those larger gatherings at all.
Family gatherings are entertaining in fiction, however, especially in comedies like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. It’s fun to watch the craziness without feeling the stress.
Everyone is different, though, and some people love celebrations. How do you feel about getting together with family on holidays? Do you enjoy large gatherings, or are you more private?

Social
I had an uncle (by marriage) who felt the same as you (and I). At extended family gatherings, he’d hang around and socialize until he was finished. Then he’d leave, presumably for some alone time, until he was ready to face the horde again. I’ve finally gotten to the point where I do the same thing.
One of my favorite holidays was when we simply bought a few deli trays and stayed home. Easy clean up, and NO TRAVEL!
