In the WeWriWa blog hop participating writers share 8-10 sentences from one of their stories.
My snippet last week ended with priestesses Selena and Elspeth discussing their upcoming meeting with the warrior priests. This week’s snippet skips ahead a few sentences, continuing the conversation between the priestesses and the abbess.
“I understand the warrior priests are all male,” Selena said.
“It has been that way since the beginning.”
Selena studied the abbess carefully. “Does it bother you, that women aren’t allowed to join their ranks?”
“It doesn’t bother them that they aren’t allowed to join ours. To be honest, I wouldn’t want to be a warrior priest.”
Selena couldn’t argue with that. “I suppose that’s understandable. We’re pacifists as well.”
“Just you, or your entire world?”
About Warrior Priest
(Science Fiction Romance)
What happens when a warrior priest from a strict religion meets a free-spirited priestess from a new age commune?
Jade and Selena are as different as two people can be, but to facilitate an alliance between their worlds, they engage in a cultural exchange. With their galaxy in danger from a planet that wants to conquer or destroy all others, they realize the importance of their assignment, but it is difficult for a warrior priest and a nonviolent priestess to understand each other.
Selena is both attracted and appalled by his old school masculinity, and Jade is tempted to break his vow of celibacy until marriage due to his powerful desire for her. Will this unlikely pair not only find common ground, but unconditional love?
Coming in 2020.

It sounds like the rules of their respective orders are certain to put barriers in the way of their relationship.
There may be an awful time ahead as they try to smooth things out but I do believe trouble is ahead.
A good question – warrior priests don’t sound pacifist.
I have a feelings these norms are about to be challenged.
I like her reply–that it doesn’t bother them. The goos and gander tale. 🙂 Good writing, Kate!
I can see the conflict building already – great premise for a story, I look forward to reading more.
Ooooooo conflict!!! Great snippet!!
I’m hoping Selena encourages female empowerment. Let’s get some women in charge 🙂
Keep smiling,
Yawatta
That last line almost sounds like someone is fishing for important information. I really hope these two worlds aren’t about to come to blows.
