It’s time for the the WeWriWa blog hop. In it, writers share 8-10 sentences from one of their stories.
This week’s snippet continues where last week’s left off. Priestesses Selena and Elspeth and their two guards have finally arrived at the Warrior Priests’ temple and are about to enter and meet the priests’ second in command.
At the gate, the guards questioned Selena and her companions, scanned them, and checked their identification.
As a sign of good faith, they allowed Grant and Franklin to keep their weapons. They were about to enter a temple that housed about two thousand warrior priests, so even armed, Grant and Franklin weren’t too threatening.
A shiver ran down Selena’s spine now that she faced the reality of their potentially dangerous situation.
The guards allowed them to pass. Another warrior priest met them at the gleaming black door. About six feet tall and blue-eyed, he looked in his late thirties or early forties. Like the other priests, he wore his long, blond hair braided down his back. A red symbol and a white one were embroidered on the collar of his uniform. The white signified his high priest status. He studied the women with cool detachment.

From the description, I’d guess this priest will be an important character.
Excellent description–and dang–that cool detachment. He must be important. Does it mean he has a long way to fall later in the story?? 🙂
Intriguing. I like my heroes a bit on the cool side. Oh, the challenge…
Is there a missing word here: “…symbol and a white were embroidered…”?
Forgot to mention in my comment, we’re posting promo spots on the wewriwa.blogspot page. If you’d like one, send me an email with an Amazon link to cypherbuss at yahoo dot com 🙂
You’re right, Ed. He’s a secondary character, but important.
Hi Teresa. He has a lot of things going on, but most of them aren’t in this story. He’s a secondary character, but still has an important role. There was missing a word (added it). Thank you! I don’t have the copy-edited version yet.
Thank you! I will send one.
Kate, you have captured me with your interesting snippet.
So what does the red symbol stand for? Great build up of tension in this scene.
The lack of description of the red symbol is intriguing. That and ‘cool detachment.’ Both hint at a later importance.
The “sign of good faith” also suggests they don’t care if the visitors try to use their weapons. Either the priests believe in their own superiority or they’re willing to lose a few of their members in a fight.
Well this new character is interesting for sure. Can’t wait to see what he’s going to do or say…great snippet!
Great description of the warrior priest. The cool detachment is very intriguing. Nice snippet.
He seems a bit intimidating for a priest.
What’s the red symbol? I’m curious to know more about the priest. Great imagery.
I’m curious about what the red stands for, too. This story is so intriguing.
