In the WeWriWa blog hop, writers share 8-10 sentences from one of their stories.
Last week’s snippet left off with a cool, detached high priest meeting Selena and Elspeth at the temple gate. This week’s snippet continues the scene.
He didn’t smile, but his expression wasn’t unpleasant. “Welcome. I’m Ari Tobias. I’ll give you a tour of the temple and training grounds.”
“I’m Selena, this is Elspeth, and these are our guards, Franklin and Grant. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She smiled warmly and Ari Tobias’s lips flicked upward almost unnaturally.
His gaze traveled carefully over the priestesses and the guards before he glanced at Judith. “Thank you for delivering our guests, sister.”
“You’re welcome.” Judith nodded and left.

I like his name! It’s kind of mysterious, kind of old-world monk, or shades of a saint. I dunno. I just think it really works. 🙂
This snippet brings to me an old world touch. I felt days of old family talking on and on.
There are definitely cultural differences in their body language. I hope it doesn’t lead to any misunderstandings.
Why does this guy sound ominous to me? Not really trusting him for some reason (maybe the unnatural smile?). Great snippet!
He doesn’t seem to know how to smile properly.
That’s a lot of introductions LOL. But I could see them all standing around nodding…I’m with Charmaine, kind of “old worldy” in feel.
This Ari chap may not be as cool and in-control as he’d like to believe.
His almost-smile makes me think he doesn’t do it often.
