Snake Charmer (Confessions 1)

(M/M Erotic Paranormal Romance)

Skye: I’m a lone wolf, but I’ve left the forest to fight against demons who’ve taken over the world. Right now I’m with a pack in Baltimore, but their alpha respects my ways. I take assignments from him, but I live alone and fight alone — until the night I’m attacked by a swarm of bat demons and a hot little snake dancer jumps in to back me up. For me, it’s lust at first sight, but it’s more than that. I think this adorable little tough guy is my mate, even though he’s not a wolf.
Erik: I’m called Snake Charmer. Dancer. Contortionist. Spirit twin to an alien serpent who has always been my protector. My life has been a series of horrors with some beautiful experiences tossed in. I’ve learned to be independent, especially after my best friend and I were brutalized in an attack that left her dead. Now I’m out for revenge, and it’s brought me to Maryland, directly into the path of a gorgeous werewolf who makes me feel things I never dreamed of. It can’t last, though, and nothing, not even desire this deep, will come between me and my vendetta.
Warning: While set in a futuristic paranormal reality, Snake Charmer includes references to previous child abuse, rape, and murder that may be triggers to some readers.
Excerpt:
I hold out my arms and he melts against me. “So where’s this club you need to go to?”
“It’s called the Savage Sage. Do you know it?”
“Sure do.” It’s a contact point for the rebels in Baltimore. I’ve attended meetings with the alpha there a few times. Interesting that he has an audition there. “What time do you have to be there?”
“Two o’clock tomorrow afternoon.”
“I’ll give you a lift. Okay?”
“You don’t have to bother. I’m going to try to find a room somewhere before I go to the audition. Whether I get the gig or not, I’ll be staying around for a little bit. Do you know any decent places?”
“Yeah. I know this guy who’s looking for a roommate. He’s not the greatest housekeeper, but he’s a good cook.”
A tremor of laughter ripples through him and he tilts his big blue-green gaze up to mine. “What’s this guy like? Is he kind of pushy? Asks a lot of questions?”
“Hey, nobody’s perfect, and if he’s hanging out with someone, isn’t it natural to want to know them better?”
“How far is the apartment?”
“Oh it’s real close.” I brush waves of dark hair from his face and trail my fingertip down the length of his hawkish nose.
“Does this guy you know bite?”
“Only if you want me to,” I whisper against his lips.
