It’s a new year and the first MFRW Blog Challenge of 2021. The topic this month is What Inventive Ways Have You Found to Keep Warm?
I live in New England, so during these winter months it can get a little chilly, as you can see:
When it comes to keeping warm, I’m not sure I’m all that inventive. I tend to go with tried and true methods, such as using the wood stove (my little dog’s favorite), bundling up with lots of warm layers, drinking hot beverages, and even wearing sweats, a knitted cap, and socks to bed sometimes. In case I get stuck on the road, I keep extra blankets and a cold weather sleeping bag in my car.
A fun way to keep warm if I’m home at night watching TV is instead of sitting on the couch, I hula hoop, do walk aerobics, or jog in place. That way I get to watch a movie, exercise, and keep warm all at the same time!

Wow, a hula hoop. What an interesting way to warm up and burn some calories too. Good tip about leaving blankets and a sleeping bag in the car.
I haven’t used in a hula hoop in I don’t know how many years. What fun. Love the wood stove, and from now on, will leave blankets and a sleeping bag in the car.
I gave all of my kids an extra afghan or two, that I crocheted, for them to keep in their cars. One of those “Mom-isms.” LOL. Like their dad told them to keep a spare car key in their wallet, in case they lock the keys in the car–“Dad-ism.”
I do love the wood stove–looks warm–no wonder your dog likes to sleep in front of it! But the idea of moving around so much while the TV is on, would not suit my husband. That’s why I crochet while we watch something together.
The last time I tried to use a hula hoop was a dismal failure, which really irked me. I used to be really good with it when I was a kid!
Hula hoop! That’s awesome, Kate ? What a clever way to keep warm. Have you been doing it long?
Kate, you’re far more energetic than I!! I like the wood stove, though. Even the idea of opening the door and chucking in a log is entertaining as well as warming.
There’s nothing like a wood stove for sure, Dee!
I’ve been doing it for about three years or so. I started hooping very late in life at about 46, but once I started, I couldn’t stop. LOL!
Both of those isms are really good advice, Fiona!
I didn’t try it until I was well into my 40s. I discovered it late. LOL.
I can’t stand being cold and the thought of being stuck without anything for warmth. . .no thank you! 🙂
