Collecting things is fun no matter what your age. This week’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging challenge topic is “Something I Collected as a Child.”
I collected model horses. Like a lot of kids, I was obsessed with horses. I lived in a suburban area where you pretty much never saw a horse, so I definitely fantasized about having one.
At one point, my parents signed me up for riding lessons, and it turned out the reality of horses wasn’t quite like my fantasy. After that, I still enjoyed collecting models and reading books about them, but I was content to admire them from afar!
Now I live in a fairly rural area and farm animals are common. Several neighbors have horses, and they’re lovely to look at, but my smaller, indoor pets are still enough for me to handle!
Though I don’t have my model horse collection any longer, I’ve still kept a few pieces. This one was a gift from my grandfather:
And this one of my first:
When you were a kid, what did you collect?

Horses are a cool thing to collect. Someone else mentioned the same thing this week.
My post.
Its hard to resist horses. They are so elegant. I love having pets, large or small. They do fill one’s live with warmth and goofiness.
Great post! Horses are awesome. They seem like a really fun thing to collect.
Those are beautiful ceramics. Horses are amazing but I remember being scared of how big they were when I was a kid.
So funny … I actually still have all of mine. And I went from riding lessons to owning my own pony and horses. I loved riding! I actually have both the horses you do, though my rearing stallion is in a different color. Twins! 🙂
Love horses! I still am waiting for a real horse of my own. Wonderful post, Kate. 🙂
That’s very cool. I have some from when my uncle was a kid and were passed down to me. I don’t know where they are right now, though.
A wonderful thing to collect. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2021/01/the-good-goddess.html
That’s at least two people who’ve answered with “horses” but honestly, that seems perfectly fair. Horses are awesome.
I wanted to learn to ride, but never did, so I read a lot of books about horses instead.
I spent much of my childhood reading books about them, too.
