When I first read this week’s topic in the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge, I thought it would be easy because so many books, movies, and TV shows have inspired/influenced me. This quickly became one of the hardest topics ever because I couldn’t decide which one to choose, or which way to go with the post. Should I pick one that influenced my creativity in some way, or one that got me through difficult times, or one that changed the way I look at the world?
I decided to go with a play. In grammar school I was obsessed with Man of La Mancha. During some rough times as a kid, my obsession with that play was the only thing that motivated me. I loved the idea of Don Quixote, looking at the world in a way no one else could see, and I felt an emotional connection to Aldonza, a woman torn between the reality of her world and the fantasy of Quixote’s. Back then I knew all the songs and most of the play word for word.
To this day, it’s still one of my favorites.

Someday I’ll have to watch Man of La Mancha! I’d never heard of it before, but it does sound good. Should I read Don Quixote first?
My post.
One of my theme songs for life comes from this musical. To Dream the Impossible Dream
We did parts of The Man of La Mancha in my drama class… I can still sing “To Dream the Impossible Dream”, lol. Good choice! And, yes, it WAS a deceptively difficult topic.
I’ll have to watch that. I’m always up for a good play.
I like plays to. The focus on dialogue seems the realist way to get into character’s heads.
You can enjoy the play without reading Don Quixote. I saw the play before reading the book. If you like the story of Don Quixote, there’s also a movie that came out in recent years called The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. It works elements of Don Quixote into its own story. I loved that one, too.
I understand how that feels, Judy!
It was hard. So many good stories to choose from!
It is a great one, Tanith!
That’s true, Shari.
