We always had dogs when I was growing up, and after I married I took in a little Eskimo Spitz-Terrier mixed mutt. I had for 17 years. When she died in 2001, I declined to replace her with another dog because she broke my heart so when she passed. It took me years to stop looking for her when I came home. She was a small dog, weighing about 30 pounds, but she stayed outside and preferred that. She loved the snow, and even when it was below freezing and I’d bring her in the garage, she pouted because she’d rather be outside. I still miss her.
Dogs are my favorite people! I like them FAR more than I like people. I’m not a small dog person though. I tend to go for Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, or Heeler mixes. I love the personalities and intelligence. I have a Border Collie mix right now, 10 months old and still un-learning things from his first home (7 weeks to 4 months, when the returned him due to not liking the DNA results on his brother). The best job I ever had was at a farm and ranch store’s pet location. Dogs all day!
I’ve all kinds of dogs during my life time… a terrier/poodle mix, an Old English sheepdog, 2 labs, a spaniel, a toy fox terrier/chihuahua mix, and now a shih tzu. Love dogs!
I love them, too, Kim! Sounds like you’ve had some great dogs!
Border Collies are beautiful dogs, and so smart! I have a border collie mix, too. He got their pretty markings, but not so much the intelligence. LOL. He’s a sweetie, though. A job with dogs around all day sounds great! Sounds like your dog’s first owners’ loss is your gain.
She sounds like a wonderful dog, CountryDew. Losing them is losing a part of the family.
We’ve only ever had mid-sized mutts, oh and a smart German Shepherd when we were kids.
My landlady has a small dog, but I can’t keep the name of the breed in my head. It’s not a common one.
