To you what type of hero/heroine is the hottest?
Oooh, this is easy! I most enjoy writing about hawt Scots. Those brawny men are my passion. Whether they are the laird of their clan or a humble peasant, nothing gets my going on a story faster than the idea of creating a gentle, tortured hero who is bound to fall fast in lust with a fiery redhead.
When writing, do you have full control of your characters, or at some point do they seem to take on a life of their own?
My characters control me and sometimes that can be a problem. I’m a pantser and oftentimes while writing, my characters will do something that causes a shift in the story. Like I will find out something about a characters past that I didn’t know and then I will have to go back and layer in whatever new secret I have discovered. I try to interview my characters early on. I ask them questions about past lovers, past battles, past transgressions, but there’s always something that sneaks into their past as I write the story, but that something always makes them more interesting. It’s when the hero suddenly has eyes for a woman other than the heroine that frustrates me. I guess that’s when I have to get the whip out and say, “No-no, handsome. She’s not the woman you are supposed to be falling in love with.”
Share one of the sexiest or romantic lines from one of your books.
[A fierce sound rose out of Vincent’s chest. A muscle flexed in his jaw. His nostrils flared angrily just before he jerked his hand out of her and set her aside. “Warwick is a damned fool! If you were mine, I’d f*ck you senseless every night.” Vexed, he unbuttoned his trousers.]
Out of context that line doesn’t seem very romantic, but I do love to frustrate my heroes. *wicked grin* This particular snippet came from Educating Aphrodite, a Victorian set ménage a quatre, which is available now from Ellora’s Cave.
You have three releases due out in 2011. Please tell us about those stories.
