It’s Wednesday and time for the Book Hooks Blog Hop. During the hop, authors share excerpts from their books.
In this week’s excerpt from my science fiction romance Warrior Priest, Selena and Jade have crashed landed in a forest and are being pursued by enemies. They have just reached a cave and are about to meet its one inhabitant.
Don’t forget to check out more excerpts from authors in the MFRW Book Hooks Blog Hop.
Thank you for stopping by!
Warrior Priest:
by Kate Hill
Science Fiction Romance
Without waiting for her to continue, he strode into the cave.
Muttering to herself, Selena followed.
It was cooler inside the cave and for the first several feet, bright enough for them to see without their torches. They rounded a turn and walked down a corridor that grew steadily darker and narrower. Jade, who led the way, had his torch on a moderate setting. Between his imposing size and the narrowness of the tunnel, Selena couldn’t see anything in front of him.
It struck her that she was completely at his mercy—trusting him to keep her safe from brutal enemies who were probably following them through an unknown wilderness. She should have been more frightened than she was, but strangely, in spite of how much he annoyed her, she trusted him completely. Part of her wished they hadn’t had that stupid argument on the shuttle. Right now she longed for the closeness they’d shared at Redwing Island.
After what seemed like miles, the tunnel widened again and opened into another spacious cave. Selena tried to step past Jade, but he held out a thick arm, barring her way.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Ah, I saw you coming,” said a high, smooth voice.
Selena glanced around Jade’s shoulder. A slim, bald person draped in a cream-colored robe sat on a rock by the entrance of another tunnel at the far end of the cave. The person looked androgynous and appeared to be of late middle age, though well preserved. Their unexpected host also had no eyes—just slight indentations in the flesh where most people’s eyes rested. If Selena had not been trained in spirituality, she might have been confused by the person seeing them coming. Apparently that had been a figurative statement.
“Who are you?” Jade demanded,
“Since you’re invading my home, I should be asking that question, however I know who you are. The priestess who still has much to learn, and the warrior priest who hasn’t known sexual release for almost his entire service to his Order.”
Selena glanced sharply at Jade, unable to keep from grinning. “Almost his entire service? What does that—”
“Drop it, Selena,” Jade said dryly.
“But I thought—”
“I said drop it.”
“Just one quest—”
“Drop.”
“But—”
“It.”
Their host chuckled softly. “I didn’t mean to cause a lover’s spat.”
“Uh, no,” Selena said. “It’s not like that.”
“For once she’s right.”
Selena glanced at Jade again. “What do you mean for once?”
Blurb:
What happens when a warrior priest from a strict religion meets a free-spirited priestess from a new age commune?
Jade and Selena are as different as two people can be, but to facilitate an alliance between their worlds, they engage in a cultural exchange. With their galaxy in danger from a planet that wants to conquer or destroy all others, they realize the importance of their assignment, but it is difficult for a warrior priest and a nonviolent priestess to understand each other.
Selena is both attracted and appalled by his old school masculinity, and Jade is tempted to break his vow of celibacy until marriage due to his powerful desire for her. Will this unlikely pair not only find common ground, but unconditional love?

Nice bloodless quarrel. I’m as curious as she is
Enjoyed the excerpt. I loved the banter. Will this unlikely pair not only find common ground, but unconditional love? That is the question. Well done!
