When writing, mistakes are inevitable, at least they are for me. For this Thursday 13, I’ve listed 13 (26?) words I commonly switch around when writing. They’re on my (long) list of mistakes to check for when I proofread.
- His/is
- Form/From
- Beast/Breast
- Quiet/Quite
- Breach/Breath
- Heat/Heart
- On/One
- Were/Where
- Her/Here
- Or/Our
- An/and
- Coma/comma
- Though/thought
Will you let me know I’m not alone and tell me some words you commonly switch by mistake?

I don’t like things like affect and effect and so many other trip-ups I can’t think of now. I repeatedly miss spell the same words over and over.
I do this, oh yes. Sound alike words and even some that my southern accent makes sound alike. Weird, because this word switching thing has happened to me as I’ve gotten older, it’s not always been “a thing” with me. Kin and Can. Like “I kin get up and get it myself” when it should be “I can get up and get it myself”. Linguists, btw, call that particular way of speaking the “pin/pen” divide–sort of tells you what part of the South your accent came from. Have a wonderful day, great post!
Lay and lie are my bane words. I will rewrite a sentence entirely to keep from using either word, unless I’m using “lie” as in an untruth. As for mistyping words, I seem to have trouble with “this” although I’ve no idea why.
