It’s time for the MFRW Book Hooks Blog Hop.
This week I’m sharing an excerpt from my science fiction romance Warrior Priest that is on sale for $0.99 until June 16, 2022.
In this snippet, Jade is feeling hot and Selena enjoys the rain. 🙂

Thank you!
The men unloading crates with him looked as hot as he felt, but they were at least in loose or short-sleeved clothing. Though Jade had worn a lighter uniform made to deflect moisture, it was already soaked through. Those of his Order weren’t allowed to reveal much skin while in public, no matter what the climate. Thinking about Selena certainly didn’t lower his body temperature. Again he glanced at the priestess who smiled as she sang with the children.
Selena looked toward him, and their gazes met. Her smiled broadened, and this time it was directed at him. His heart skipped a beat. He wanted to attribute it to exertion, but moving some crates wasn’t an excessive workout. He refused to admit that she spiked his pulse. He nodded at her in acknowledgement because a smile seemed too intimate.
“This is the last one,” Lorry said, grasping one end of a long crate.
Jade grabbed the other end and they hauled it inside just as the rain started. Moments later, Manda and the children hurried into the building. Most carried their books over their heads to keep the rain off.
Jade scowled. “Where’s Selena?”
“I think she likes the rain.” Manda grinned. The teacher turned her attention to the children. “All right, everybody. Let’s go to our rooms and wash up for dinner.”
Jade strode outside to find Selena standing in the yard, drenched in warm rain, her face tilted skyward. Franklin stood under a nearby tree, clearly not as happy about the tropical shower as the woman he was assigned to protect.
The priestess turned to Jade and walked toward him.
She stopped in front of him, her face streaked with rain, droplets of it catching on her long eyelashes. Her blue eyes glistened with amusement, and he couldn’t tell if it was due to the rain or directed at him for some unfathomable reason. Her wet, flimsy clothes hugged the slight swell of her perfectly round breasts and the gentle curve of her hips.
She grinned. “This is a first.”
“What?” Jade asked.
“You’re smiling. I wasn’t sure if it was against your religion.”
Jade hadn’t realized he’d been smiling. He stopped immediately.
Blurb:
What happens when a warrior priest from a strict religion meets a free-spirited priestess from a new age commune?
Jade and Selena are as different as two people can be, but to facilitate an alliance between their worlds, they engage in a cultural exchange. With their galaxy in danger from a planet that wants to conquer or destroy all others, they realize the importance of their assignment, but it is difficult for a warrior priest and a nonviolent priestess to understand each other.
Selena is both attracted and appalled by his old school masculinity, and Jade is tempted to break his vow of celibacy until marriage due to his powerful desire for her. Will this unlikely pair not only find common ground, but unconditional love?

Hello, Kate,
This sounds excellent!
“Jade hadn’t realized he’d been smiling. He stopped immediately.”
Great excerpt. Loved the scene ending but also his trying not to be attracted
Great scene. I don’t think Jade’s attempt to deny attraction is going to work. Leaves me wondering what will happen next. Good hook. Thanks for sharing!
Very interesting. I love Jade’s last line.
Thanks for sharing!
