This week’s blogging challenge is to post about your favorite quote from a book. It’s hard to narrow that one down because there are so many great quotes, but the first one that comes to mind for me is from the Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux.
“It was his skeleton. I did not realize it by the ugliness of the head, for all men are ugly when they have been dead as long as that–”
This quote has stuck with me since the first time I read the Phantom of the Opera. It’s true that underneath, we’re all just a skeleton. In the book, Erik was shunned because he didn’t look like everyone else–or he didn’t look how people thought he should look. It’s never easy for people who don’t conform to other people’s expectations, whether it’s how we look, act, or think. That’s why this quote made such a huge impression on me, and it still does.
