A Gaping Wound – #MFRWHooks #sciencefictionromance

Posted on June 8, 2022June 7, 2022 by Kate

Welcome back to the MFRW Book Hooks Blog Hop!

This excerpt from Warrior Priest picks up where last week’s left off. Jade and Selena are stranded in a rural village on an underdeveloped planet. He has been working all day as a fruit picker, and she has just helped deliver a baby. The work day is done, and Selena has some plans for tonight. Jade contemplates his feelings for her.

Don’t forget to check out more excerpts from authors in the MFRW Book Hooks Blog Hop.

Thank you!

Kate

“I need a shower.”

“Genna put clean clothes on our bed. Jade, after dinner Genna asked if we’d like to join her friends at a bonfire. It’s the end of the work week, and they have a gathering around seven. I’d like to go.”

“Then we’ll go.”

“Thank you.” She kissed him again before leaving for the kitchen.

He watched her stroll away, studying the curve of her firm bottom and the way her silky hair swayed across her slender back. He was becoming far too attached to her, but he didn’t want it to stop.

He wondered briefly if it was a mistake to allow his feelings for her to develop. Before her, he only focused on his duty. Before her, he wondered if he’d been capable of romantic love. Now he was fairly certain that if she decided they weren’t meant for each other, he would be left with a gaping wound that might never heal. He could never admit that to her. If and when she agreed to marry him, she needed to make that choice freely. He couldn’t—wouldn’t—try to burden her with guilt. Inevitably, such tactics would fail anyway. He wanted her to love him and not one day resent him for taking her freedom.

His thoughts churning, Jade trudged upstairs to shower and change for dinner.

Blurb:

What happens when a warrior priest from a strict religion meets a free-spirited priestess from a new age commune?

Jade and Selena are as different as two people can be, but to facilitate an alliance between their worlds, they engage in a cultural exchange. With their galaxy in danger from a planet that wants to conquer or destroy all others, they realize the importance of their assignment, but it is difficult for a warrior priest and a nonviolent priestess to understand each other.

Selena is both attracted and appalled by his old school masculinity, and Jade is tempted to break his vow of celibacy until marriage due to his powerful desire for her. Will this unlikely pair not only find common ground, but unconditional love?

Warrior Priest is on sale for $0.99 until June 30th at  Amazon / Smashwords.

What a pair that doesn’t seem to fit together. And yet,….will love conquer all? Enjoyed your post.

    When opposites attract…life gets emotional.
