Warrior Priest

Elspeth – #weekendwritingwarriors #sciencefictionromance

Posted on June 19, 2022 by Kate

Welcome to the Weekend Writing Warriors blog hop in which writers share 8-10 sentences from their work.

This week’s excerpt from Warrior Priest picks up where last week’s left off. During a meal at the warrior priests’ temple, Jade swaps his vegetables for Selena’s meat and gets teased about it, but her friend and fellow vegan Elspeth likes the idea.

Thank you for stopping by!

Excerpt:

“That’s a good idea.” Elspeth looked as embarrassed as Selena felt. “Would someone be willing to trade?”

Several priests eagerly volunteered to swap food with her. Selena almost laughed. She wasn’t sure if it was because they desperately wanted a second serving of meat or because Elspeth was stunningly pretty. With her exotic features and waist-length black hair, she was far more attractive than Selena.

“That’s enough. Attend to your own plates,” Ari Tobias said sharply, his lip curled. He used his fork to impale the meat in Elspeth’s dish and drop it in his own.

That’s 10, but if you’d like to go on, here’s a bit more:

He then gave her the equivalent from his vegetarian portions.

“What do you think of Covenant so far?” Shayne asked.

“We’ve only just arrived, but it’s been interesting,” Elspeth replied. “We’re looking forward to meeting our guides.”

“Yes. Now is a good time for that,” Ari Brent said.

“Elspeth’s intended guide was called away for a emergency,” Tobias said, “However I’m taking his place.”

Elspeth smiled at this bit of news, and Selena refrained from shaking her head.

Her friend always had an eye for attractive men, and it seemed she would now have a chance to further study her latest interest. Selena was glad she wouldn’t have to spend the remainder of her visit with Tobias. She agreed with Grant that he was arrogant. Maybe she would be assigned to Shayne or someone like him. At least he had a sense of humor that tempered his ferocity.

“Ari Jade is assigned to Selena,” Tobias continued.

Selena nearly choked on the mouthful of bread she’d just swallowed.
No! Not him. Anyone but him.

Warrior Priest
by Kate Hill

What happens when a warrior priest from a strict religion meets a free-spirited priestess from a new age commune?

Jade and Selena are as different as two people can be, but to facilitate an alliance between their worlds, they engage in a cultural exchange. With their galaxy in danger from a planet that wants to conquer or destroy all others, they realize the importance of their assignment, but it is difficult for a warrior priest and a nonviolent priestess to understand each other.

Selena is both attracted and appalled by his old school masculinity, and Jade is tempted to break his vow of celibacy until marriage due to his powerful desire for her. Will this unlikely pair not only find common ground, but unconditional love?

Warrior Priest is on sale for $0.99 until June 30, 2022 at Amazon and Smashwords.

Enjoyed the snippet! And of course she’d be assigned to him – excellent!

The detail about the priests wanting to trade food with Elspeth – so accurate – want more meat or want the beauty.

Great last lines. It reminded me of Harry Potter under the Sorting Hat, muttering “Not Slytherin, not Slytherin.” LOL The food swap seemed very realistic. Great snippet.
