Today I’m sharing an excerpt from my upcoming re-release the Darkness Therein. It’s been great working on revisions for this book, including additional scenes. The Darkness Therein was my first published novel, and the entire Ancient Blood series has been a huge part of my life ever since. I’m thrilled to finally present them again in a way I’ve always wanted to.
Thank you for stopping by!
Excerpt:
“These are just some still life works, but there’s a nice landscape…” she started to explain, but he walked past her directly to the most intimate of her collection. She bristled with anger. “Sorry if the others are too boring for you, and what you’re looking at happens to be very personal to me.”
“I’m sorry,” he murmured, though his gaze remained fixed on a group of paintings she had spent hours creating without the slightest difficulty. She’d clearly seen every shape, sunset, building, and person. Though not a historian of any kind, she painted costumes and places as accurately as if she’d been there. In her mind she had been there, observing in a trance-like state and recording all she saw with her pencil and brush.
And a bit more, if you’d like to continue:
Jocelyn continued, “It’s just that these are so real. I’ve been to each of these places and seen these people. I lived in that house. The coven met in that clearing amidst those trees. Looking at this painting, I can almost smell the ritual fire again.”
“It’s the fireplace downstairs.” She refused to admit that she was any more connected to this man than she already felt.

Jocelyn has chased his nemesis for centuries. He swore that nothing or no one would stand between him and revenge on the creature that destroyed his life. That same rival leads Jocelyn to the one person who can reconnect him to the human race.
Art student Charlie has no idea that her family history binds her to a creature of legend–until he appears in the form of a tall, beautiful man with a thirst for revenge. The last thing she wants is to follow his orders, but if she intends to stay alive, she has no choice.
Note: The Darkness Therein was previously published. This re-edited version contains additional scenes.

Oh, I don’t think he’s going to fall for that. Great snippet!
Who is speaking in that last line? I thought it was him since it was a new paragraph, but the paragraph continues in her POV. A bit confusing there but I like the set up.
A fascinating snippet. Tweeted.
I don’t know how long she’s going to be able to deny she has a connection. The evidence is pretty damning even now. And yes, he’s not going to fall for the “it’s the fireplace” excuse. Intriguing storyline. Tweeted.
She wants to deny it, but it’s impossible. 🙂 Thank you!
Thank you, Cie!
Hi Nancy. I think the confusion might be their names. Jocelyn is male, so she (Charlie, female) is speaking the last line and it’s actually the hero speaking in the previous one. 🙂
You’re right, he’s not. At this point they’re both in a little denial.
Fascinating!

Hmmm, interesting set up (and makes me want to see the paintings for myself!). I like the air of mystery and uncanniness you’ve introduced already. Great snippet!
