Excerpt from Sofia’s Silver Bullet
There are few things worse than an old-school male vampire who’s easy on the eyes. I’d been warned about Arturo when our meeting was set up. Who warned me? It wasn’t that arrogant jerk Bloodbloom. Yeah. I know he’s in with the sovereign vampire of the USA and that alone gives him power, but bowing down to powerful people has never been on my to-do list. That’s what got me into trouble before and after my change to vampirism, but that’s another story.
No, Bloodbloom wouldn’t think to warn me about a guy like Arturo because he’s the same kind of man. It’s Bloodbloom’s partner, Cupid, a sweetheart I’m happy to call friend, who told me about Arturo. It amazes me that Bloodbloom and Cupid are in love, but they say opposites attract, at least in their case.
“You know I usually work alone,” Arturo says.
“Ditto, but the poison is expensive and complicated to make, or so I’m told. Bloodbloom wants to make sure it’s delivered. If it falls into demon hands, they’ll create an antidote and it will be useless. The rebellion figures it’s safer with two of us to protect it.”
“I work better alone. I move fast, hit hard, and I don’t have time for emotional baggage.”
“Good. Then we understand each other, as long as you keep your assumptions to yourself.”
“No assumptions. Just stating facts.”
“Like the fact that there’s a swarm of bat demons headed straight for us.”
He glances out the window and then back to the road. “I hope your hair extensions are in tight. Brace yourself, baby.” He hits the gas.
