Excerpt from Through My Heart
“You’re afraid, and I’m sure you have many questions,” Adrian said, unlocking a heavy wooden door. He stepped aside for me to enter first, and I stepped into a small, comfortably dark room. It was amazing to see down here in the windowless cabin without so much as a single candle for light. An intricately decorated carpet of black, red, and gold covered the floor. The table and chair in the far corner were made of polished oak. A low bed covered in linen sheets stood against the far wall, and above it hung a painting of a jagged mountain range against the backdrop of a giant full moon in a dark sky.
He gestured a large, long-fingered hand toward the painting. “The mountains of Constanta, where I was born into my mortal life, and my immortal one.”
Removing the hood, but still snuggling in the large black cloak that carried his scent, I gazed up at him. “Master—”
